Okanagan College will be moving to a different model of program delivery in two communities this year.
The College has made the decision to exit its leased facilities in Revelstoke and Oliver and instead rent space for courses on an as-needed basis, as it does in other communities in the region.
Currently, OC leases the Revelstoke Centre facility from School District 19. The two organizations have reached an agreement that will see the College exit the lease as of March 31.
OC will continue to have access to use the site for pre-scheduled programming through the end of June.
The agreement allows School District 19 to pursue other uses for the facility while ensuring that any courses already scheduled will not be impacted by the change.
In Oliver, OC has been the primary leaseholder of the Oliver Centre for more than 20 years and more recently began sharing the space with One Sky Community Resources, which operates childcare and community services from the site.
Earlier this month, One Sky became the primary leaseholder for the facility, and the College is now renting more limited space at that location for the delivery of literacy programming.
As the College transitions away from operating facilities in Revelstoke and Oliver, it will look to renting other spaces to support local course delivery. This includes partnering with employers or other organizations in the community, sharing or renting spaces with other groups, and expanding access to programs available in hybrid and online formats.
