UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF THE NORTH
UCN Welcomes the Return of Language Arts Festival to Northern Manitoba

April 27, 2026

The University College of the North (UCN) is proud to announce the return of its Language Arts Festival. The sixth annual Language Arts Festival will take place at the UCN campus in The Pas on Wednesday, May 13 and Thursday, May 14, 2026.

"For many years, the Language Arts Festival has provided opportunities for Northern and Indigenous youth to meet, learn and be inspired by story-makers. Watching student exercise or discover their own voice has been an amazing process." says David Williamson, Associate Dean of Early Childhood Education.

Designed to inspire students in Grades 9-12, the festival will focus on this year's theme: "Children and Youth Literature: More Than Bears and Bunnies," featuring keynote presentations, interactive workshops, and opportunities for students to engage with established authors and share their own creative work.

Additional highlights include contributions from UCN Business Administration marketing students, who have developed original children's stories rooted in northern and Indigenous perspectives, and a UCN Indigenous Literature Student Panel showcasing poetry and reflections from students across the region.

The festival is free to attend, and early registration is encouraged. Teachers and students interested in participating can contact the Festival Committee at languagearts@ucn.ca for more information.

University College of the North provides learning opportunities to northern communities while respecting diverse Indigenous and northern values.
