NSCAD UNIVERSITY
Jana Macalik named NSCAD's acting president

February 3, 2025

NSCAD University's Board of Governors has announced that Jana Macalik will serve as NSCAD's acting president effective February 1, 2025.

"Jana has been invaluable in helping faculty, staff and the board develop better work processes, better working relationships and better academic governance through demonstrated and compassionate leadership as Interim Provost," wrote William Barker, Chair of the Board of Governors in a message to the NSCAD community.

Outgoing President Dr. Peggy Shannon will work with Jana through February as she assumes the president's role for the coming months. In November 2024, Dr. Shannon advised the Board of Governors that she would be leaving NSCAD to round out her career at the Kansas City Art Institute and to be reunited with her family.

"We are fortunate that Dr. Shannon developed a highly integrated and professional senior leadership team that remains focused on ensuring the university can address both its strategic changes for the future and the unforeseen changes in global economic and political realities," added Barker.

The Board recently approved a Presidential Search Committee, who will soon be working with an executive search firm to find the next university president. In the coming months, the committee will solicit feedback from the NSCAD community to better understand what it needs to prepare for a creative future, and who can best lead us on that journey.
