NOVA SCOTIA
Design Work to Begin on New Trenton School

March 30, 2026

Families in the Trenton, Pictou County area are another step closer to having a new, modern school in their community.

The Province has awarded Marco Group Limited the contract to replace Trenton Elementary and Trenton Middle schools with a new pre-primary to Grade 8 school that will accommodate up to 300 students. The first phase of the project will be initial design work.

"This is an exciting day for the entire community as we start to design the new school that the town of Trenton deserves," said Pictou Centre MLA Danny MacGillivray, on behalf of Public Works Minister Fred Tilley. "The important feedback and input from parents, students, educators and community members have helped determine the preferred location for the school and will continue to be invaluable as we shape the design of their new school."

The new school will be built next to the Trenton Minor Sports Community Centre and Trenton Park. The site best meets program needs, offers safe access for students and buses, and provides opportunities to share community infrastructure.

The project will be designed to be net-zero ready and meet LEED Silver or Green Globes energy and environmentally sustainable design certification.
