The Department of Integrative Biology's Indigenous Knowledge Connector, Clint Jacobs, has been appointed to a one-year term as Senior Advisor to the President on Indigenous Initiatives. For one year, Jacobs will split his responsibilities between his existing teaching and outreach activities in the Faculty of Science and his new senior advising role to the president.
"I look forward to amplifying Indigenous voices and engaging more with our Indigenous and non-Indigenous colleagues across campus and in the surrounding communities," said Jacobs of his new appointment.
Clint Jacobs will serve as the Senior Advisor to the President on Indigenous Initiatives for a one-year term.
A member of Walpole Island First Nation and founding director of the Walpole Island Land Trust, Jacobs is also a co-principal investigator with the University of Windsor National Urban Park Hub.
In his new capacity, Jacobs will support the ongoing development and approval of the University of Windsor's first Indigenous Strategic Plan, build external relationships with Indigenous communities, and advance policies, practices, and procedures related to Indigeneity at the University of Windsor.
Dr. Gordon said he is excited to welcome Jacobs to the role to continue the momentum that Beverly Jacobs put into practice during her tenure before she returned to her faculty position at Windsor Law earlier this month.
"Bev's dedication and expertise have been invaluable to our University community as we build on our commitment to Truth and Reconcilliation," Gordon said. "We thank her for her leadership in the advancement of the inaugural Indigenous Strategic Plan, outreach, and more and welcome Clint to this important leadership role."
