The University of Guelph has been named as one of the world's top universities for the study of 12 subjects, according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025.
In three subject areas, U of G ranked within the top 100 in the world:
- U of G's Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) has been named sixth in the world for veterinary science, rising from eighth place in 2024. OVC has been ranked first in Canada for veterinary science.
- The Ontario Agricultural College ranked 30th in the world and second in Canada for agriculture and forestry.
- The Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics placed in the 51-100 ranking globally and tied for first in Canada for hospitality and leisure management, a ranking maintained since 2024.
Additionally, the University ranked in two new subjects. U of G placed 101-170 worldwide in anatomy and physiology and 601-675 in physics and astronomy. This is the first time since 2020 U of G's physics and astronomy subject has been ranked globally.
More than 1,700 universities around the world were assessed in the rankings. Fifty-five subjects were assessed, of which U of G ranked in 12.
Conducting the assessment was Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a higher education analyst that releases one of the most widely read and trusted university rankings in the world.
Dr. Rene Van Acker, interim president and vice-chancellor, says the rankings highlight U of G's strong reputation as a research partner and its commitment to improve life globally.
"This recognition demonstrates U of G's creativity as well as its success in mobilizing and disseminating research knowledge all around the world," says Van Acker. "Our faculty clearly take their knowledge and experiences gained in the field to inspire students in the classroom. It is clear that U of G is becoming the research partner of choice for industry, government and not-for-profit organizations."
