WATERLOO REGION DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
Vista Hills PS Brings Energy to the Coldest Night of the Year Walk in Kitchener

March 28, 2025

It was a cool, crisp day in Kitchener as hundreds of people gathered at Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute for the Coldest Night of the Year event. The walk is designed to raise money and awareness for people in the community who are facing homelessness and poverty.

One special group at the event was the Vista Hills Public School Drumline. The talented group of students were invited to perform at the start of the walk. They lined the entrance of Cameron Heights CI with their drums ready and their uniforms on. They practiced for this moment to make sure their performance would give the participants a memorable start to their journey.

As the first walkers passed by, the beat of the drums echoed through the morning, cutting through the cold and bringing up the energy. Some people in the crowd cheered and clapped along with the beat. The drumline's energy gave everyone the inspiration to get their walk started.

As the last walkers passed the drumline, the group continued to play, cheering the participants on as they left. For the Vista Hills drumline, it was a chance to use their music to help others and to be part of something meaningful.

"It was a lovely community event and I am proud that our students could put a smile on their faces," said Penny Miller, Principal at Vista Hills Public School.
