LAURENTIAN UNIVERSITY
University opens new Language Learning Centre

September 18, 2025

Laurentian University is proud to announce the official opening of their new Language Learning Centre (LLC), located in the Alphonse Raymond building. Designed to support the university's bilingual and tricultural learning environment, the LLC is a dedicated hub for improving French and English language skills. The Centre prioritizes serving francophone students and those seeking to perfect their French language competencies.

The new Centre will host a Grand opening celebration on Friday, September 19, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. With staff available all day, visitors may also drop-in anytime between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Regular hours of operation will thereafter be Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The LLC is a space that facilitates social interaction and a sense of belonging among learners. With resources like board games, a karaoke system, and virtual reality, the Centre offers innovative and interactive opportunities to acquire and practice language skills. The LLC is open to students, faculty, staff, and community members, and may be booked for special events.

"We are honored to be able to support our student population and community members in their learning of the official languages," said Natalie Poulin-Lehoux, Laurentian University's Associate Vice-President, Francophone Affairs. "The Centre is designed to allow students, whether they are francophones or francophiles, to perfect their mastery of French or English, preparing them optimally for a successful integration into the job market."

The LLC provides courses and workshops focused on practical skills like speaking, reading, and listening comprehension. It also offers dedicated support to help francophone students succeed in bilingual work environments by giving them opportunities to practice their English language skills.

This project was made possible with the financial contribution of the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, Research Excellence and Security, and the Government of Canada under the Canada-Ontario Agreement on Minority-Language Education and Second Official-Language Instruction.
