Multiple loads of furniture and books are on their way to Mississauga, for shipment to schools in Honduras. The items were declared surplus to the needs of the Board and include student chairs, desks and tables.
"We are thrilled to join forces with Canadian Food for Children - Chatham-Kent (CFFC-CK) to ensure these surplus items reach schools in Africa and Haiti, where they are desperately needed," says Lisa Demers, Director of Education. "This effort is a testament to our commitment to advancing social justice and supporting humanitarian causes worldwide."
CFFC-CK was formed in 1997 and has been collecting and sending food, clothing, medical and school supplies and other needed items to the main warehouse in Mississauga. From there it is loaded into shipping containers and trucked to Halifax, for shipment to Africa; and the Port of Miami, for shipment to Central and South America. The volunteers of CFFC-CK have supported missions in such countries as Tanzania, Sierra Leone, El Salvador and Zambia, among others.
Dr. Andrew Simone of Toronto, and his wife Joan, in response to a request from Mother Teresa, founded Canadian Food for Children in Canada in 1981.
