Conestoga has announced that President John Tibbits will retire effective January 14, 2026, following a distinguished 40-year career dedicated to the institution and its students.
President Tibbits shared his decision with students and employees, expressing gratitude for the support and dedication of the Conestoga community throughout his tenure. He had originally planned to retire in December 2024 and deferred his departure to support continuity during a period of transition.
"Serving Conestoga has been the privilege of my professional life," said Tibbits. "I am confident the college is well-positioned for the future."
On behalf of the Board of Governors, Chair Martha George thanked President Tibbits for his leadership and contributions.
"John's commitment to students and employees has shaped Conestoga and strengthened its role in preparing learners with the skills needed to support Ontario and Canada's competitiveness," said George.
The Board has launched a comprehensive executive search, which will be conducted by Boyden, a premier worldwide leadership and talent advisory firm. During the transition, Norma McDonald Ewing, Vice President, Institutional Strategy & Engagement, Chief of Staff and Secretary General to the Board of Governors will serve as Interim President.
Conestoga remains focused on supporting students and employees, as well as delivering the programs and skills that meet the evolving needs of learners, employers, and communities.
