BROCK UNIVERSITY
Holistic supports earn Brock recognition as one of Hamilton-Niagara's Top Employers

January 19, 2026

Brock University has been named one of Hamilton-Niagara's Top Employers for 2026.

This marks the eighth time that Brock has been honoured in the annual competition, which recognizes Hamilton-Niagara organizations that are leaders in providing exceptional places to work.

Brock has received recognition in every year that it has applied to the award, which is organized by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers and is in its 19th year.

The 2026 winners were announced in a feature magazine published Thursday, Jan. 15 by The Hamilton Spectator and on Eluta.ca

Brock President and Vice-Chancellor Lesley Rigg said the recognition reinforces the University's dedication to supporting the personal and professional growth of its employees as they drive transformative change in Niagara and beyond.

"Brock is committed to ensuring all of our faculty, staff and librarians know that they matter by providing opportunities and resources to support them in realizing their full potential at Brock and in their communities," said Rigg. "We are stronger together, and investing in the holistic well-being of our employees naturally advances the University's strategic objectives by collaboratively pushing for better, in ourselves, with our peers and in the world."

Employers were evaluated against other organizations in their field using eight criteria: workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.

Some of the reasons Brock was selected include its extensive benefits coverage, including for fertility and IVF treatment; generous maternity leave top-up payments and the ability for employees to extend their leave into an unpaid leave of absence; an on-site daycare centre that employees may benefit from when returning to work; and employee health and well-being resources such as subsidized memberships to a full fitness facility and mental health supports.

Brock's hybrid defined contribution and defined benefit pension plan as well as its commitment to supporting employees as they look to the future with retirement planning assistance services was also recognized.

Acting Associate Vice-President, People and Culture Amanda Villella said Brock is committed to ensuring the University's employees feel respected, supported and valued as they meaningfully contribute to advancing the University's strategic goals.

"From an employment perspective, our strategy is focused on meeting the unique needs of our changing and diverse workforce and providing them with the tools they need for success," she said. "We do so by, among other things, prioritizing employee recognition and competitive total rewards; cultivating a respectful and welcoming workplace that champions a collective responsibility for equity, diversity and inclusion; and expanding leadership and employee development programming."
