Lincoln Avenue Public School proudly celebrated its annual Grade 8 History Fair this week, showcasing the research, creativity, and critical thinking of students as they presented their projects for "The Greatest Canadian!"

In preparation for this event, Grade 8 students have been learning about the life, legacy, and impact of a notable Canadian of their choice. Their work resulted in a vibrant, exhibition where they created displays, delivered presentations, and engaged visitors in thoughtful conversations about the figures they selected.

Several special guests attended to support students profiling leaders connected to their organizations or families.

Guests included:

  • Philippe Garneau, brother of Canadian astronaut Marc Garneau, who was profiled for his groundbreaking achievements in space exploration and public service.
  • Heather Reisman, founder of Indigo Books & Music, attending in recognition of a student's project highlighting her philanthropic contributions and literacy.
  • Heather Gardner, Women's College Hospital, in support of the student presenting on Dr. Emily Stowe, Canada's first female physician and a pioneering advocate for women's rights.
  • John Campion, Banting Discovery Centre, on behalf of Dr. Frederick Banting - co-discoverer of insulin and a transformative figure in global health.
  • Jennifer Jones, CEO of Fighting Blindness Canada, representing Molly Burke, the Canadian YouTuber, advocate, and motivational speaker.

"We are so proud of our students who year after year demonstrate curiosity, passion, and respect for the stories that shape our country. We are also grateful to the special guests who took the time to join us as it made the experience unforgettable for our students," expressed Principal James Rowed.

This event continues to be a highlight of the school year at Lincoln Avenue PS, which offers students an opportunity to develop research skills, practice public speaking, and deepen their understanding of Canadian identity.
