KENORA CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
Grade 6 Legacy Project Launches

May 21, 2026

On May 14, SJPII Grade 6 students rolled up their sleeves and teamed up with the STAHS shop class for a memorable day of creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning as they launched the Grade 6 Legacy Project.

The Legacy Project is a meaningful tradition that gives graduating Grade 6 students the opportunity to leave a lasting mark on their school community before beginning the next chapter of their educational journey. Working together with STAHS students and staff, the Grade 6 class learned valuable woodworking skills while creating personalized fenceposts that will soon brighten the SJPII campus.

Following a safety and project briefing from Mr. Richards, it quickly became an "all hands on deck" effort. Students were supported throughout the day by Mrs. Kantola, Mr. Cox, EA Chelsea Lanteigne, and Co-Op student Olivia Bryant. Together, they guided students through every step of the process from measuring and trimming to cutting, sanding, and priming the boards.

The project not only introduced students to practical, real-world shop skills, but also encouraged teamwork, creativity, and school pride. In the coming days, students will personalize their boards with colourful artwork, symbols, and memories that reflect their time at SJPII.

Once completed, the vibrant fenceposts will be permanently installed along the west-side chain-link fence, transforming a hidden corner of the school into a welcoming and meaningful outdoor space for students, staff, and visitors to enjoy for years to come.

The Grade 6 Legacy Project is a wonderful example of collaboration between schools and a celebration of the lasting impact students can make within their community.
