Five of the GTA's colleges including George Brown College have each received a $20,000 grant from Bell Let's Talk to support student mental health initiatives.
George Brown, Centennial, Humber, Sheridan and Seneca College will work together to develop programming to support each dimension of the National Standard of Canada for Mental Health and Well-Being for Post-Secondary Students. This kicks off the countdown to Bell Let's Talk Day, which takes place on January 26.
Yukimi Henry, Director, Student Support and Inclusive Learning at George Brown, says the grant will also allow the college to continue to move the dial on mental health stigma-reduction and awareness training.
"Students will benefit from an increased capacity to identify their mental health needs and access appropriate services to meet these needs," says Yukimi. "Students will be empowered with enhanced skills to advocate and mobilize their own communities inside and out of the learning environment to address mental health needs."
