EASTERN SHORES SCHOOL BOARD
A first step towards a new school in New Carlisle

November 26, 2024

In the presence of Catherine Blouin, Member of Parliament for Bonaventure, was held on Tuesday (Nov 12), a groundbreaking ceremony for the new elementary-secondary school in New Carlisle. This symbolic inauguration is a significant step towards the realization of the future facility.

The construction of this establishment was made possible thanks to the support and financial commitment of the Quebec government to replace the existing school, which dates to 1914. This project, which is important for the entire community, will help meet the needs of students in the Port- Daniel-Gascons-Shigawake-New Carlisle to Bonaventure sector.

The new school will be a state-of-the-art facility offering stimulating spaces reflecting the newest modernization trends for school designs in Quebec. New technologies, innovation and collaboration will be put forward, with the aim of meeting learning needs in a context where students can express themselves and develop in an innovative and creative environment.

The facility will accommodate up to 234 students, with a total area of 3817 m2, most of which will be spread over two floors. The school will encompass 15 classrooms: 6 classrooms for preschool and elementary education, 5 classrooms for secondary education, 1 science class along with a workshop-tool room, 2 multi-purpose art rooms, and 1 gymnasium. In addition, there will be various administrative offices and specialized support rooms as well as living spaces for students and staff. The cost of the project is $30,3 million, funded by the Ministry of Education.

The new school is located at 65 rue de Dover in New Carlisle. The work, entrusted to Habitat construction Matane (1986) Inc., has been underway since August 19, 2024.
