Three members of the Concordia community were among the 83 individuals appointed to the Order of Canada, as announced last week by Governor General Mary Simon.
The Order of Canada, one of the country's highest honours, recognizes people across all sectors of society who have made extraordinary and sustained contributions to the nation.

Karim Zaghib
CEO, Volt-Age; professor, Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science
An expert in electrochemistry and materials science, Karim Zaghib's contributions to advancing the energy sector have played a significant role in the global effort to achieve carbon neutrality. His research focuses on energy storage and conversion, especially in the creation of lithium-ion and solid-state batteries.

Barry F. Lorenzetti

Beyond his accomplishments as trailblazer in the Canadian insurance industry, Barry F. Lorenzetti is also a dedicated philanthropist. Notably, he started the Barry F. Lorenzetti Foundation to advance mental- health care in Quebec and across Canada. In addition, with a gift of $500,000 in 2021, he established the Barry F. Lorenzetti Centre for Women Entrepreneurship and Leadership at the John Molson School of Business .
Mahesh Chandra Sharma
Professor, John Molson School of Business
Mahesh Sharma is a long-serving faculty member, mentor and community leader at Concordia. In memory of the family members he lost in 1985 in the Air India Flight 182 tragedy, he created the Sandhya and Swati Sharma Memorial Scholarship. Through this heartfelt tribute and his commitment to the next generation, Sharma has made a lasting impact that reaches far beyond the university.
