John Abbott College is proud to announce that Tania Peres, faculty member in the Chemistry Department, has been selected as the 2026 recipient of the SALTISE Best Practice & Pedagogical Innovators Award (College Level). This prestigious award recognizes exceptional contributions to teaching and learning through evidence-based pedagogical innovation.

Presented by SALTISE (Supporting Active Learning & Technological Innovation in Studies of Education), the award honours educators whose work has had a significant and lasting impact on student learning, institutional culture, and the broader educational community. Ms. Peres was nominated by colleagues who highlighted her unwavering commitment to student success, her leadership in pedagogical development, and her thoughtful adoption of innovative teaching practices.
Over the years, Ms. Peres has been recognized for designing learning experiences that actively engage students, foster deep conceptual understanding, and promote inclusive and supportive classroom environments. Her approach has had a direct and positive effect on many students, helping them navigate challenging course material while developing confidence and independence as learners. In addition to her classroom impact, she has contributed to the professional development of colleagues by sharing practices, mentoring peers, and participating in pedagogical initiatives at the college and provincial levels.
Ms. Peres will be formally recognized during the SALTISE Conference Awards Ceremony on June 2, 2026, at the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) in Montreal.
