Great Plains College to host economic development breakfast with President Emeritus, Mark Frison

April 22, 2024

As part of its spring graduation ceremonies, Great Plains College will name its first President Emeritus, founding president, Mark Frison. The designation recognizes significant contributions to the institution and signifies an ongoing connection to the organization.

"Great Plains College is extremely grateful for the exceptional leadership Mark provided during his time in the college sector in Saskatchewan. His vision and foresight led to the founding of Great Plains College and his ongoing support of us demonstrates his commitment to our success," said Brad Mahon, president and CEO of Great Plains College. "We are thrilled he is able to join us for a few days this May where we can recognize his contributions, award him this well-deserved honor, and create an ongoing connection for him to our institution."

Frison spent seven years working within Saskatchewan's college system, including his time as the founding president of Great Plains College. Since 2010, he has served as the president of Assiniboine College based in Brandon, Manitoba.

Frison will address the graduating classes at both Swift Current and Warman Campus graduation ceremonies.

In addition, Great Plains College, in partnership with Swift Current and District Chamber of Commerce, will leverage Frison's visit to host a breakfast event Friday, May 3, 2024 at the Swift Current Campus. Frison will give a brief address titled "The Critical Role of Colleges in Economic Development", a topic germane to the future development of Great Plains College.

"I am thrilled to be returning to Saskatchewan, and especially, Swift Current where I spent many meaningful years early in my post-secondary career," stated Frison. "It will be great to reconnect with the Swift Current business community, college staff and share perspective on the state of the sector and our impact on the modern economy."

The event will include a full hot breakfast buffet with doors opening at 7:30 a.m. and the presentation starting at 8:15 a.m.

This event is free for all guests and RSVP is required. To RSVP, please contact assistant@swiftcurrentchamber.ca no later than Tuesday, April 30, 2024 to reserve your spot.
