Dr. A. Blair Stonechild Awarded King Charles III Coronation Medal

October 30, 2024

On October 10, 2024, Dr. A. Blair Stonechild was honoured with the prestigious King Charles III Coronation Medal. This significant award commemorates the ascension of a new monarch and marks a rare occasion, as the last time such medals were issued was in 1952 during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

The medal presentation took place at Government House in Regina, where Dr. Stonechild was one of only ten recipients to receive this honour from Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty. The accompanying certificate reads: "By Command of the King, the Coronation Medal is hereby conferred upon you in commemoration of His Majesty's Coronation as King of Canada and in recognition of your valuable contribution to your country."

During the ceremony, the Lieutenant Governor remarked on Dr. Stonechild's remarkable contributions, which include his experiences at the Qu'Appelle Indian Residential School, his role as the first instructor hired by the First Nations University of Canada (formerly Saskatchewan Indian Federated College), and his impressive publication of six books. Over the past 48 years, Dr. Stonechild has also served as a member or consultant with various organizations, further solidifying his impact on education and Indigenous communities.

This award is a testament to Dr. Stonechild's dedication and the lasting influence of his work. Please join us in celebrating his achievements and contributions to our community and country!
