Global Saskatoon was at Bedford Road Collegiate to talk about Grade 9 unique programs with Saskatoon Public Schools. Information was shared by teachers Aron Knudsen and Naila Chaudry regarding the Collective Voice, Off the Grid, and Waskawiwin Land-Based Learning programs.
-
Collective Voice: is for students passionate about equality, justice and helping to build a sustainable future. Students study both historical and current causes of inequality and injustice in Canada and around the world. They get the chance to share their learning with each other and our city through a partnership with Saskatoon's community radio station CFCR 90.5 FM. Full program info here
-
Off the Grid: connects in-class learning with outdoor expeditions. Students get hands-on learning experiences by participating in overnight canoeing, camping and tree planting trips; looking after beehives; meeting some of Saskatchewan's leading experts in the field of environmental sustainability; and taking a turn running the Off the Grid Bike Shop. This program is for our adventurers. Full program info here
-
Waskawiwin Land-Based Education: takes an environmental approach to learning that recognizes our deep connection and relationship to our place in the world. This approach acknowledges that knowing and learning occur by cultivating the relationship between people and the land. This program is for students who are motivated, love being active and outdoors and who enjoy learning in alternative ways. Full program info here
The application deadline for all Grade 9 unique programs is February 28, 2025. All Grade 8 students are welcome to apply. Please note that, after completing Grade 9, students are welcome to stay at that high school or transfer to another one. All options are open.
