KAMLOOPS
City and Thompson Rivers University Investigating Feasibility of Dome over Hillside Stadium

October 6, 2017

The City of Kamloops and Thompson Rivers University (TRU) are moving forward with a feasibility study that will provide them with conceptual design and cost estimates for a removable, air-supported dome over Hillside Stadium that would allow for the field and track to be used during the winter months. The dome would be taken down in the spring.

The proposed dome would cover the entire field and 400 m outdoor track, and would allow Hillside Stadium to be used year-round and become home to TRU's athletics and recreation programs. It would also expand the City's hosting opportunities for both soccer and football, and provide indoor training opportunities for other user groups within the city.

"At this point, we are looking to find out how feasible it would be to construct this dome, in terms of budget, design, and the business case for the facility," says Darren Crundwell, Capital Projects Manager. "Once we have those details, we can investigate funding sources."

The feasibility study and pre-design is expected to be complete by May 2018.
