As phased reopening plans continue to progress across the city, the next phase will see playground structures and outdoor fitness equipment opening today, June 1. This includes outdoor playgrounds located in municipal parks and at Kamloops' public schools.
The decision to close playgrounds has been at the discretion of local governments and were closed across the city in mid-March. Staff have been working collaboratively with municipal and regional partners to determine the appropriate timing for reopening playgrounds.
Removal of the closed signs and caution tape will signify that playgrounds are open for public use. Residents are asked to refrain from using these spaces until the signs and caution tape have been removed. It should be noted that playgrounds will not be cleaned and that residents are using the park at their own risk. Water parks will remain closed at this time.
Residents are encouraged to exercise caution when visiting local playgrounds and to continue to follow provincial health guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by:
- washing and/or sanitizing hands before and after visiting playgrounds
- maintaining a physical distance and avoiding gatherings
- staying home if you feel unwell
Information regarding water parks and indoor recreation facility reopening plans will be provided in the near future. Each facility has unique considerations to ensure staff's and patrons' safety.
