After more than two years of uncertainty and caution resulting from the COVID-19 Pandemic, Transit ridership continues its strong recovery, with great performance in the first full week of September. Lethbridge Transit is pleased to welcome back students, staff and faculty on their vehicles, achieving the highest weekday ridership levels since the start of the pandemic.
Ridership for the first full week of school is up 53% over 2021, which was the first year of the cityLINK Network redesign. The table below illustrates key metrics that compare Transit's performance on the second week of September since the COVID-19 Pandemic.
With this increased usage, Lethbridge Transit will be making some minor, no-cost adjustments in order to improve the customer experience and On-Time Performance. This includes minor adjustments to the Route 52 Columbia and DRZ 101 in order to create better consistency and capacity. Transit will continue to monitor service and adjust as needed to address service quality issues. According to Statistics Canada, transit ridership across the Western Region of Canada remains at approximately 60% of pre-pandemic levels, which is similar to the pace of recovery Lethbridge Transit is experiencing.
