STONY PLAIN
Town to Welcome a New Francophone School

June 2, 2021

The Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord (CSCN) and the Town of Stony Plain are excited to announce a Francophone school will be coming to the community.

The announcement is the result of continued advocacy by the CSCN with strong support from local partners. As announced by the provincial government, twelve modular classrooms will be installed to create a starter school with a planned opening date of September 2022. The school will provide high quality French as a first language education and will promote the vitality of the Francophone community within Stony Plain.

"The CSCN is overjoyed at the announcement of the opening of a long-awaited starter school in Stony Plain. Francophone parents and students will finally have a school close to home that will allow them to learn and grow in French. We want to thank the Town of Stony Plain for their enthusiasm and ongoing support. Un grand merci!" - Tanya Saumure, Board Chair of the Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord

"This is an exciting development for Stony Plain and a major milestone for our Francophone community," says Mayor William Choy. "The new school will provide families with a greater diversity of primary education options and further, create richer opportunities to celebrate Francophone culture within Town."

The CSCN and the Town of Stony Plain will work together to finalize the identification and preparation of the starter school site. Further details surrounding expected capacity and grade levels will be announced in the coming months.
