The provincial government has signed a bilateral agreement on education with Morocco.

"This targeted and mutually beneficial agreement between the New Brunswick and Moroccan education systems aligns with our objective of strengthening our relationships with governments that are part of the international Francophonie," said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Bill Hogan.

The memorandum of understanding will enable professionals from these education systems to work together on projects involving:

  • The promotion of preschool education, inclusive education, school activities, school sports, arts and cultural education, and sustainable development.
  • The integration of new information and communications technology.
  • The sharing of expertise on methods and techniques for assessing and monitoring student learning.

"The signing of this agreement will foster co-operation in various educational sectors, encourage pairings between classes and schools, promote the sharing of the latest teaching practices and help implement innovative projects that reflect the shared priorities of both jurisdictions," said Hogan.

"In a highly competitive, knowledge-based global economy, innovation goes hand in hand with job creation and economic growth," said Isabelle Valois, Canada's ambassador to Morocco. "Canadian and Moroccan educational institutions play a vital role and actively contribute to economic development, exchanges and the consolidation of the people-to-people ties between our two countries."

Hogan recently led a delegation to Ivory Coast and Morocco with staff from his department, along with officials from Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour, Intergovernmental Affairs, Université de Moncton and the Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick.
