EASTERN SHORES SCHOOL BOARD
ESSB Announces a New Director General

November 6, 2019

Eastern Shores School Board (ESSB) is pleased to announce the nomination of Mr. Hugh Wood as Director General effective November 1, 2019.  The Council of Commissioners voted on the recommendation of the selection committee.

Mr. Wood will succeed Ms. Nancy Doddridge, interim Director General since July 1, 2019.  He brings with him 31 years experience in education, all of which was served at Eastern Shores School Board.  Mr. Wood is known for his team approach to problem resolution while always maintaining the student's interest at the core of all decisions.  Since 2004 he occupied the position of Principal of Grosse Isle School.  In 2017 he also assumed the role as Coordinator of Adult Education of the same school.  Additionally, Mr. Wood has experience as a Math, Science and Physical Education teacher as well as Interim Director of Human Resources in 2018.

Mr. Wood received his Bachelor of Science and Physical Education in 1987, his Masters of Education in 2017 and admits to being a life-long learner as he has received many other trainings during his career.  His pedagogical experience and knowledge will certainly prove to be a great asset to the Eastern Shores School Board, as well has his team spirit and leadership skills.

When asked to share his vision for Eastern Shores he quoted Helen Keller and said, "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much".  Mr. Wood is confident in the team that is in place and is looking forward to working with them.  He is confident that the team in place will work hard together to rise to the upcoming changes.  The Council of Commissioners and the staff at ESSB would like to extend their congratulations to Mr. Hugh Wood and wish him the best of luck in his new mandate.
