Member of the National Assembly for Hull Maryse Gaudreault Unveils New Sculpture

Member of the National Assembly for Hull Maryse Gaudreault unveiled a new sculpture at Cégep Heritage College.

With her artwork, renowned artist Paryse Martin brings together the natural and the artifice in this surreal allegory, as she coins it. She wants the viewer to approach the work, discover its intricate details, and yet take hold of the overall possibilities of a story being told, a story becoming timeless. We enter her world of whimsy, fantasy, and storytelling, as we observe the intricate detailing of her sculptural technique. The imaginary and wonder of these creatures is not lost on the viewer. They are familiar and approachable, reminiscent of fables and tales of our childhood.

In this work, Paryse Martin offers the viewer a tale on one's passage through learning. "H" is Heritage, the institution but also the experience. "H" is the allegory spun by these approachable creatures, precariously moving along this scaffolding, this ladder. The dog is the faithful companion, courageously advancing along the ladder, guiding the rabbits so as to avoid hazards. The dog offers protection and comfort along this journey. The rabbits are curious, a bit aloof as they venture along the ladder, glancing in different directions at different stages of their journey. The dog is the College or more specifically, the teachers, who guide the students through the stages of learning. The students are the rabbits, sometime unaware of the difficulties of their passage through learning, they are guided intentionally and safely through their educational experience here at Cégep Heritage College. Collaborative, supportive, and venturing ahead, the College moves forth.
