Congratulations to the 2023 winners of the John Pitre Scholarship in Architectural Technology. Second-year student Jeremy Bozzo won 600 $ for academic excellence, while graduating student Emily Bertrand-Oliver won 1,100 $ for academic transformation.

Prizes were awarded at the program's end-of-year BBQ that was attended by special guests Emmanuella Lambropoulos, Federal MP for St Laurent, Marwah Rizqy, MNA for St Laurent, city councillors Annie Gagnier and Vana Nazarian, and Martin Fecteau representing André Morin, MNA for Acadie.
Vanier alumnus John Pitre says it was thanks to his studies in the Vanier Architectural Technology Program that he discovered his passion in life. After graduating from Vanier in 1979, then from university studies in Economics, and starting a successful business in British Columbia, John sought to give back and inspire the next generation of technologists by founding a scholarship that bears his name.
In 2011, he created two scholarships. For John, having strong grades is a great achievement, but equally important is improvement. Hence, one of his scholarships is specifically aimed at rewarding a student with the most improvement over the course of their studies. Over the years, John has donated more than $20,000 in scholarships and support to the Vanier College Architectural Technology Department.
Unfortunately, John was unable to attend this year's BBQ and festivities. In the past, he as stated how uplifting and inspiring it is to see the new group of young technologists graduating every year, and above all how gratifying it is to know that his scholarships encourage and motivate them in their future choices.
