Cegep Ahuntsic wins Gold at the 2024 Scotiabank Vanier College National Marketing Case Competition

March 8, 2024

After a gruelling 2-day competition, Vanier College is pleased to announce that Cegep Ahuntsic won the Gold Award at the 2024 Scotiabank Vanier College National Marketing Case Competition that featured some of the best business students in Canada on March 2-3, 2024. Congratulations to Gabriel Magna Massicote, Louis-Olivier Racette, Coralie Mill, and Maxine Gendron and their coach Jean-Luc Filiatrault for their winning presentation.

Six teams made it to the Sunday finals on March 3rd where they analyzed a new Marketing case and presented a second time. These were: Cegep Ahuntsic who won the Gold Award, Algonquin College with students Alkira Descoteax, Jaime Miller, Nishanth Babu Battula, and their coaches Melanie Haskins, Craig Flynn, Brenden McBride and Alex Frangione who won Silver; George Brown College that won Bronze with students Torry Tough, Jessica Keffer, and Matthew Spencer with coaches Tom Arhontoudis and John Hendrikx. The other three finalists were Fanshawe College, Niagara College, and Medicine Hat College.

Although they were not in the finals, other teams placed well within their division. In Division 1, St. Clair College came in third place and Marianopolis College, in fourth. In Division 2, Vanier College placed third and Sheridan College placed fourth. In Division 3, Okanagan College placed third and College Edouard-Montpetit placed fourth.

During the weekend event, twenty-four teams of marketing students from colleges across Canada had three hours to analyze a real marketing case and present viable marketing solutions before a panel of expert judges. The finalists on Sunday then had to analyze a new marketing case.

At a Gala dinner held on March 2 where finalists were announced, the Julia Ferreira Public Speaking Excellence Awards, named in memory of a Vanier graduate and former case competition participant, was presented by Dave Bussiere from Windsor University's Odette School of Business. The awards went to the three best public speakers of the competition, chosen from each division: Mikaël Ouellette, from Collège André-Grasset; Ella Stott, from Champlain College; and Patric Perron, from Collège Édouard-Montpetit.

As well, this year's Builders Award was given to George Brown College coaches Tom Arhontoudis and John Hendrikx for their commitment and engagement to supporting their students throughout the competition and their spirit of openness and support for all the teams over the weekend event.

"Once again, we delivered an unbelievable event that was greatly appreciated by all attendees and featured high caliber participants from across Canada!" said George Dracopoulos, the principal organizer of the Scotiabank Vanier College National Marketing Case Competition. Echoing the same sentiment, Keith Dundas, coach from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, stated "This is such a fine event - the friendly, affable vibe reimagines what a competition can feel like. Well Done! Can't wait to come back next year!"

Scotiabank is very proud to be the principal sponsor of an annual event that allows students, professionals, and mentors to come together and form valuable relationships.

Thanks to partnerships between Vanier and sponsoring organizations like Scotiabank, and others such as Pearson Canada, Advocate Level Sponsors who have given 19 straight years of top-level support to the case competition, Vanier College is able to offer students from across the country first-class learning opportunities, such as the case competition that mirrors how things work in the business world and provides students with invaluable practical training.
