It was another great day for students of the Vanier College Architectural Technology Program who gathered on May 31st for an Awards ceremony and the End-of-year BBQ. Students, teachers and special guests celebrated what was the close of the 50th Anniversary year for the program by applauding student success and achievement as scholarships were distributed.
Guests included Alan de Sousa, mayor of the borough of St-Laurent; Emmanuella Lambropoulos, Federal MP for Saint-Laurent; Aref Salem, city councilor and leader of the official opposition at Montreal City Hall; Vana Nazarian, city councilor; representatives Isabelle Lord and Nathalie Côté from the office of Marwah Rizqy, MNA for Saint-Laurent; Martin Fecteau representing André Morin, MNA for Acadie.
Congratulations to all the students who received scholarships:
- John Pitre Scholarship winners Norah Blusanovics who received an $800 scholarship for academic excellence and Leila Mota winner of $1200 for academic transformation presented by John Pitre, alumnus and benefactor
- Lilia Adjaoud who received the Robert Dupuis Scholarship directly from Robert Dupuis, a retired teacher and program benefactor
- Joëlle Jabak winner of the Siamak Barin Memorial Scholarship, received from Calina Olari, alumna representing Coex, who created a new scholarship in honour of Coex founder, the late Siamak Barin
- Ariana Rose Caiola winner of the Gianfranco Caputo Scholarship for the student who has shown leadership skills and student-life engagement while studying in Architectural Technology
- Jacob Rodman and Matek Seghir who won the recently created David Reich Memorial Scholarship, given to them by Paul Reich, son of David Reich
- Monika Musa and Yasser Makkass winners of the Marwah Rizqy scholarship presented by Isabelle Lord
- Giuliano Cervone, Alex-Sandra Giard, Mathieu Stephenson and Vitoria Paiva Dias who won Tony Mazzili Memorial Scholarships, presented to them by John Marcovecchio, CEO of Magil Construction and Eddy Mazzilli.
- Eva Teoli, Bianca Calabrice and Téa Bernardi winners of the Vanier College Excellence in Writing Award sponsored by the Writing Centre and presented by teacher Layla MacLeod.
It was a fun-filled afternoon of food provided by Mucho Burrito serving tacos, deserts from Crèmerie Mémorable and cotton candy. A photo booth by Frame-It allowed students to capture the moment. And to make sure everyone remembered the day, Amaze Entertainment provided an axe-throwing activity.
