ÉCOLE DE TECHNOLOGIE SUPÉRIEURE
ÉTS partners with Next Generation Manufacturing, an Advanced Manufacturing Supercluster

February 27, 2018

École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) is working in partnership with Next Generation Manufacturing (NGM) Canada, one of the five projects that were selected by Canada's Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development on February 15, 2018 within the context of the Innovation Superclusters Initiative.

Pierre Dumouchel, Director General of ÉTS, confirms that "We are delighted to be a part of this project with our partners from Ontario. ÉTS is home to a number of research chairs and laboratories operating in the fields of materials, additive manufacturing, robotics and artificial intelligence, which are cornerstones in Industry 4.0. We are also ideally equipped to meet the evolving needs of the Québec and Canadian manufacturing industry."

In the spring of 2017, the Government of Canada invited companies to form partnerships with universities and other stakeholders in the innovation sector, with a view to proposing forward-looking projects aimed at developing innovation superclusters that would lead to job creation. The Government is committed to investing up to $950 million in the selected projects over five years.

Communitech and the MaRS Discovery District, with the support of more than 100 partners, including Linamar, Woodbridge Group, the University of Waterloo and ÉTS, proposed the Advanced Manufacturing Supercluster under the name Next Generation Manufacturing Canada.

According to Jayson Myers, CEO of NGM Canada, "Canada's Advanced Manufacturing Supercluster aims to leverage the best in advanced technology to help manufacturers across the country become world leaders in Industry 4.0. ÉTS is an important partner in our Supercluster. Its strengths in applied research, engineering and technology will make a major contribution to our efforts, and will help connect Quebec's advanced manufacturing sector to the resources required to power its future success."

The NGM Canada network will promote collaboration among the technological and manufacturing sectors through the Internet of Things, Big Data, sensor technology and smart machines with a view to developing and applying new solutions that will open the door for large-scale production to accelerate the appropriation of technology among companies and increase efficiency.
