ASSINIBOINE COLLEGE
Assiniboine Foundation Gala proceeds to support students in inaugural Mechatronics program

March 13, 2025

The proceeds from the upcoming Assiniboine College Foundation Legacy Gala Dinner on March 20 will fund several $2,500 financial awards for students entering the new Mechatronics Engineering Technology (Robotics and Automation) this fall. Applications for these awards are now open.

"The Legacy Gala is our largest fundraising event each year, where guests have the opportunity to experience a remarkable evening while supporting a worthy endeavour," said Barry LaRocque, Assiniboine College Foundation Board President. "It's a pleasure to be involved in this event, and I want to thank our sponsors and guests in advance for supporting the future of students pursuing a career in the exciting world of robotics and automation. By supporting this event, you are investing in our students pursuing an innovative career in mechatronics, fostering the next generation of robotic system developers, creators, and problem-solvers."

Mechatronics is integral to manufacturing and industrial automation. The program will equip students with cutting-edge skills in an interdisciplinary field that combines mechanical engineering, electronics, computing, and automation, pulling together knowledge from these disciplines to develop automated machines to service industries such as manufacturing and agriculture, to name a few.

"Our Mechatronics program is designed to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving job market and industry requirements," said Assiniboine President, Mark Frison. "By offering this program, we are not only responding to industry demands, but also setting our students up for success in their careers as part of provincial labour demands. We're preparing students with the technical expertise and problem-solving skills to thrive in modern manufacturing and automation environments, ensuring they are ready for the careers of today and tomorrow."

The annual Legacy Gala is held in the historic Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts building. The evening features a gourmet dining experience hosted by our talented Culinary Arts, Baking Foundations and Hospitality students. Guests are treated to an exclusive multi-course menu with wine pairings at each course. Complimentary in-town car service is provided by our Public Safety program students.

In recent years the Legacy Gala has given proceeds to financial support for Mature Student High School students (2017), Indigenous students (2018), Early Childhood Education students (2019), emergency student needs in light of the COVID-19 pandemic (2020), students in healthcare programs (2022), black Canadian students (2023), and women in public safety (2024).
