More than 450 local leaders, valued community members, dedicated sponsors, and supporters gathered this past weekend at Evergreen Park for Northwestern Polytechnic's 37th annual President's Ball.
The evening, which traditionally features a memorable celebration of post-secondary achievements and enduring regional support, included a nod to local difference-makers with the incorporation of NWP's Community Alumni Awards ceremony, and the Governor General's Academic medal presentation for students.
"We are incredibly fortunate to have exceptionally talented and generous individuals within our community," expressed Dr. Vanessa Sheane, CEO and President of Northwestern Polytechnic. "These remarkable alumni and local leaders have played an integral role in not only advancing NWP, but also in uplifting our region through mentorship, guidance, and significant impact on the student experience."
Northwestern Polytechnic's Board of Governors Chair, Shawna Miller and NWP CEO and President Dr. Vanessa Sheane, had the privilege of presenting the 2024 honours to this year's awardees including:

Governor General Award - Nicoleta Solcan and Alex Zinman
The annual honour is a long-standing tradition, dating back to 1873, when Canada's third Governor General created the award to inspire students across Canada to strive for academic excellence. To this day, it continues to be one of the most prestigious awards that Canadian students can receive.
"Every year, we set aside these honours for exceptional individuals or collectives in our community," Miller stated. "It brings me immense joy to recognize these genuine trailblazers who dedicate their efforts selflessly for the betterment of us all."
