LAKELAND COLLEGE
Boundary Ford's support benefits players on and off the ice

June 13, 2024

The Apex Automation Rustlers women's hockey team wrapped up an impressive second season in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC), thanks in part to the generous support from Boundary Ford Gives. Their $50,000 donation was a game-changer for the team.

"The Boundary Ford Gives gift to the Rustlers Hockey Club had a huge impact on our operations," says Morgan Mann, head coach of the Rustlers. "Their support enabled us to cover essential expenses like travel, equipment, and meals. This contribution not only helped our players compete but also grow as strong, community-minded individuals."

"At Boundary Ford together with Boundary Ford Gives, we take great pride in supporting groups such as the Apex Automation Rustlers women's hockey team," says Carly Pollard, Boundary Ford Gives chair and marketing manager at Boundary Ford. "Over the years we have been able to contribute to groups that impact our community and help to alleviate some of the financial stressors that arise. Being able to have conversations with Coach Mann as well as the team, you see quickly how much this community means to them and their commitment to being community minded is always present. The women's hockey program has created a space of diversity and inclusion, which we recognize, support and are so very proud of."

This season was one for the books. The Rustlers finished first in the regular season with a 21-4 record and clinched the ACAC silver medal in the postseason. Notably, four players earned spots on the ACAC All-Conference Teams Keyra Buziak and Mackenzie Dojahn on the second team, and Hailey Carothers on the first team. Buziak was named Rookie of the Year, while Carothers took home the Top Scorer award. Coach Mann was also recognized as Coach of the Year.

Since its inception in 2021 and joining the ACAC in 2022, the women's hockey team has been a joint effort between the community and the college. The majority of operational funding comes from community support, making partnerships like the one with Boundary Ford Gives invaluable.
