With a strong emphasis on hands-on learning, real-world experience, and mentorship from skilled instructors, Lakeland's trades training consistently produces apprentices who stand out in their fields.

Lakeland apprentices have earned top honours in Skills Canada competitions, bringing home:

  • 17 Alberta Provincial Skills Canada competition medals in the last seven years
  • 2 National Skills Canada competition medals
  • 11 Top Apprentice Awards from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Awards of Excellence

Lakeland carpentry alum, Logan Peters, will compete for Team Canada in China for the World Skills Competition in 2026.

"Apprenticeship training at Lakeland is more than just a program it's a launchpad for success in both competition and careers," says Dave King, dean of Lakeland's School of Trades and Technology. "Our success comes from strong partnerships between instructors, students and industry. Together, we're building a skilled and resilient workforce for Alberta."

To celebrate Alberta Apprenticeship Day, current Lakeland apprentices and pre-employment students will gather for a luncheon at the Vermilion campus on Sept. 22.
