CAMOSUN COLLEGE
Camosun creates new paths to university for engineering students

January 10, 2025

Students in Camosun College's Engineering Transfer program are now closer to being able to transfer to six universities that offer engineering degree programs in B.C.

The Engineering Transfer program at Camosun introduces students to engineering mechanics and project design in addition to a solid foundation in first-year science and English. Currently, students who finish the program are ready to enter into the second year of a Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Software Engineering at the University of Victoria. With the signing of the BC Common First Year Engineering Curriculum (BC CFYEC), an agreement that all the six receiving universities and 14 sending institutions in B.C. have signed, Camosun Engineering Transfer students will now be able to transfer to Simon Fraser University, Thompson River University, University of British Columbia (Vancouver and Okanagan locations), and the University of Northern British Columbia.

"At present, the Engineering Transfer program offers only a single pathway to the University of Victoria. While 95 percent of our students choose to transfer there, some prefer other institutions, particularly if they are interested in engineering programs not available at UVic," explains Susan Chen, Faculty Lead of the Engineering Transfer program. "This marks a significant step forward for our future students, as it will expand their options and improve accessibility."

The agreement will be finalized for students entering the Engineering Transfer program in September 2025.
