The Douglas College Foundation welcomes six new directors to its board, following the latest annual general meeting.
The new directors are:
- Jill Cook - former executive director of the Coquitlam Foundation and former CEO with the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce
- Jay Dargatz - President of Canstar Restorations and Douglas College alum
- Kathy Gallagher - formerly of Envision Financial
- John Halani - Vancouver's honorary consul to the Republic of Uganda and owner of the Tropicana Suite Hotel
- Jamal Khan - Managing partner at CF Canada Financial and Douglas College alum
- Sasha Ramnarine - Lawyer at Remedios & Company and Douglas College alum
"This year, we will continue to focus on strengthening and deepening the Foundation's relationships with our donors and volunteers," says Leanne Poon, the Foundation's executive director. "We are incredibly grateful to our existing Foundation Board, as well as our newest members, for generously providing their expert advice as business and community leaders. With their assistance we hope to increase the Foundation's community profile and increase philanthropic support for our students and the College."
Established in 1985, the Douglas College Foundation provides financial assistance to Douglas College students through the generosity and support of donors, community partners and volunteers. During the 2017/18 academic year, the Foundation raised over 1.5 million dollars from more than 2,000 donors and distributed 1.8 million dollars in scholarships, awards and bursaries to over 1,800 deserving students.
