Every year, Aurora College's School of Health and Human Services recognizes preceptors who go above and beyond to provide mentorship to Aurora College student in the health care programs. This year, for the first time, the College is recognizing a Licensed Practical Nurse for this award.

Ashley Wiseman was the recipient of the first Preceptor of the Year award for the Practical Nurse (PN) program. PN student Geri Rocero nominated Wiseman for this award, stating that Wiseman sought out learning opportunities and advocated for her to ensure she had an outstanding experience on the Extended Care Unit at Stanton Hospital.
Rocero is one of 12 graduates of the 2023 Practical Nurse Diploma graduating class at Yellowknife North Slave Campus who are now preparing to write the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam to obtain their licences and practise as Licensed Practical Nurses.
These graduates are the first group to complete the Practical Nurse Diploma at Yellowknife North Slave Campus in more than 15 years. Applications are open until July 28 for the 2023 Fall intake for Practical Nurse and other Aurora College post-secondary programs.
The Aurora College nursing faculty is grateful to Wiseman and all of many preceptors who share their knowledge, experience, and passion and for the support and mentoring provided by all of the Practical Nurse Diploma preceptors, practicum supervisors and the facilities that support the learning and growth of students. Without them, graduates would not have the depth and breadth of knowledge and experience they do when they enter the workforce.
