NORTHERN LIGHTS COLLEGE
NLC receives funding to shape anti-racism legislation

August 10, 2023

Northern Lights College (NLC) is one of 68 organizations to receive grant money from the BC government for anti-racism legislation.

NLC applied for the funding and will receive $4,000 to host sessions with Indigenous and other racialized people about their lived experiences within the province.

"Our goal is to provide a culturally respectful space where participants feel their experiences and feedback are valued and respected," says Karen Mason-Bennett, NLC's campus administrator for Fort St. John. "The act of sharing challenging experiences is an act of resistance in itself. People often underestimate the cumulative impact of ongoing aggressions until they speak with others who have similar experiences; lived experience is an invaluable resource in the war against hate."

Engagement sessions are being planned for Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, Chetwynd, and Fort Nelson. The official dates for the sessions are still being determined, but we will share that information once it has been finalized.
