The new siding and windows give the building a fresh look. Although the building looks great, some improvements are not so noticeable at first glance. About 270 windows on the building were replaced with efficient, triple paned, dual LowE and argon gas windows. These new windows will help keep the building warmer while using less natural gas!
In the overhaul of the exterior, along with the replacement of all the siding, new fascia, soffit, eavestroughs, and downspouts were also installed. Inside housing, there is new casing, and the blinds in the rooms replaced with blackout curtains much better for sleeping!
With fall arriving, the workers will be wrapping up for the year in October or November. Come spring, they will be back to finish up the project.
The housing refurbishment was the big obvious project here on campus for much of the year, but it wasn't the only project! Campus Kids' Daycare's expansion is complete, and the little ones are back in. Behind housing, there will be a new concrete deck, and once that is complete, landscaping will beautify that area for the student's enjoyment.
Plans and projects on our other campuses:
- Our Chetwynd campus has a nice new sign out front, and a daycare expansion is happening.
- Our Fort Nelson campus is having an automotive shop installed. The equipment is on site and work will start next week.
- We are installing cost-free feminine hygiene products dispensers across many campuses.
- We are 75 per cent done a renovation and upgrade of the accessible washroom on Fort St. John Campus
- The Dease Lake Access Centre's septic system will get replaced this fall
We can't forget that the new hospital has begun on the west end of NLC Dawson Creek's campus. Please be aware of this when travelling on campus, and don't forget the speed limit on campus is 30km/h.
