March 4, 2024

As one of the most distinctive artists of his generation, Sir Stephen Hough has combined a distinguished career as a pianist with those of a writer and composer. Named by The Economist as one of Twenty Living Polymaths, Sir Hough was the first classical pianist to be awarded a MacArthur Fellowship. He was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2014, and was knighted in the Queen's Birthday Honours in 2022.

"Sir Stephen Hough is an extraordinary artist, and it's a thrill to welcome him to Darke Hall," says Michael Angell, Lecturer, Faculty of Music, Art, and Performance at the University of Regina. "This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to experience an evening with one of the world's greatest musicians and thinkers."

Sir Stephen has composed works for orchestra, choir, chamber ensemble, organ, harpsichord and solo piano. He has been commissioned by the Takacs Quartet, the Cliburn, the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet, the Gilmore Foundation, The Genesis Foundation, the Walter W. Naumburg Foundation, London's National Gallery, Wigmore Hall, Le Musée de Louvre and Musica Viva Australia among others. Sir Stephen is an Honorary Fellow of Cambridge University's Girton College and holds the International Chair of Piano Studies at his alma mater, the Royal Northern College in Manchester. He is also a member of the faculty at The Juilliard School.
