University Canada West has unveiled the newly named Sheldon Levy East Building in honour of former President and Vice-Chancellor Sheldon Levy at its Vancouver House Campus. The dedication took place on Wednesday, June 26, at UCW's Vancouver House campus.
"We are incredibly proud to dedicate this building as the Sheldon Levy East Building, recognizing the profound impact he has had on our school," said UCW President Bashir Makhoul. "Sheldon's work has significantly shaped the trajectory of University Canada West, and his legacy will forever be cemented in our story."
Mr. Levy served two years with UCW after joining in October 2021. Under his leadership, UCW experienced significant growth, expanding to over 14,000 students from over 110 countries. In addition to partnering with Fulbright Canada, the leader in public diplomacy and academic exchange, Mr. Levy established the UCW MBA Games Team in 2022. This team made history by becoming the first team to hold both the BC MBA Games and National MBA Games trophies simultaneously.
Mr. Levy also advanced reconciliation efforts during his tenure. He appointed UCW's first Elder in Residence and established an Indigenous Advisory Council to guide and support academic initiatives. Under Sheldon Levy's guidance, University Canada West also joined the Moose Hide Campaign as an Ambassador Campus and began production on "Understanding Indigenous History: A Path Forward."
UCW is proud to dedicate this building to Mr. Levy, recognizing that there is no individual more deserving of this distinction.
"I am deeply honored and humbled by this dedication," said Levy. "This building's renaming stands as a testament our collective achievements and the transformative power of education and community. May it remain a constant representation of the core values and mission of UCW."
