Saskatchewan Polytechnic is a founding member of Artificial Intelligence Saskatchewan (AiSK), a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering the growth of the AI sector in Saskatchewan. This initiative is supported by a three-year funding agreement aimed at advancing AiSK's mission to become the central hub for AI innovation in the province.

The funding from Sask Polytech for $35,000 per year will enable AiSK to host events, convene industry roundtables and deliver programs and services that help to advance the adoption of AI in the province. By bringing together industry leaders, academic institutions and government bodies, AiSK aims to be a one stop shop for the burgeoning Saskatchewan AI sector.

Sask Polytech's Digital Integration Centre of Excellence (DICE) is tackling the critical challenge of helping Canadian companies harness AI to improve efficiency, competitiveness and sustainability. As a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council funded Technology Access Centre, all of the work DICE undertakes involves industry-led partnerships. Dr. Terry Peckham, director and research chair for DICE will sit on the AiSK advisory board.

"We are excited to join AiSK and contribute to the development of a vibrant AI community across Saskatchewan," says Dr. Larry Rosia, Sask Polytech president and CEO. "There is an urgent need for businesses to harness AI's competitive advantages effectively. By supporting these companies, DICE empowers industry to integrate cutting-edge AI solutions that optimize their operations and prepare for future growth. Being a founding member of AiSK aligns with our commitment to innovation and provides our students and faculty with unique opportunities to engage with the AI community."

"The field of AI represents an economic growth opportunity for Saskatchewan," says Alex Fallon, AiSK founder and interim executive director. "AiSK will help the province seize this opportunity by creating a central hub for AI - bringing together the public, industry, academia and all levels of government to create a thriving AI sector."

DICE engages in applied research across various sectors. Dr. Peckham and his team specialize in data  analysis, storage, transmission and display. Most of their current research focuses on the industrial application of machine learning, particularly with sensor-based systems, and on data integration and migration for machine learning across data silos.

The AiSK Advisory Board consists of industry and academia leaders from across Saskatchewan including the University of Saskatchewan, Economic Development Regina and the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.
