New Band hall for Ministikwan First Nation

The graduates of SIIT's Residential Renovation and Construction (RRAC) program at Ministikwan First Nation produced outstanding results after they completed their studies and were then hired by the community to complete the work they'd started renovating the Band hall.

The RRAC program ran from May 2 to July 22, providing students with two areas of skills development. The first focus was on developing the basic skills needed for entry-level work in residential or commercial construction. The second focus was on providing the skills and knowledge needed to work at maintaining and renovating housing. For their hands-on experience they started renovations on the Band hall. After graduation, they were hired to complete the overhaul of the hall, from top to bottom.

"It is great to see how they put their skills to work to upgrade the building," said Corey Burgess, Program Coordinator in SIIT's Trades and Industrial Unit. "They did an exceptional job of renovating something that has real meaning to the community."
