The one-year Office Administration certificate was the first program delivered jointly by two regional colleges in Saskatchewan. Administration costs were shared between Parkland and Cumberland, and classes were conducted entirely online through Brightspace and WebEx platforms.
The decision to deliver the program jointly and online was made in part due to COVID-19 restrictions and the colleges' Blended Learning approach.
"I didn't really understand what it meant, but it's actually a very cool thing," one student said about the unique program experience. "I'm glad I got to be a part of it."
In a learner survey, 100% of students felt they were treated equally as their classmates from the other college, and 92% said they would recommend this program to others.
"I thought it was pretty neat," another student said. "It's nice to get the opportunity to work with people from all over the province, especially during lockdown."
Jenna Niebergall, Chair of Post-Secondary Education at Parkland College, attributes the program's success mainly to the adaptable and patient instructors who were up for the challenge of teaching a fully online course under difficult circumstances.
On the heels of this year's success, Office Administration will again be offered jointly by the two colleges online in the 2021-2022 academic year.
