July 19, 2024

VCC welcomed a delegation from Thailand last month to highlight partnership opportunities and promote the benefits of joining University Mobility in Asia Pacific (UMAP). These types of events support VCC and UMAP's goals of enhanced cooperation among higher education institutions and increased mobility of students and staff.

As the international secretariat of UMAP until the end of 2025, VCC is pleased to welcome visits from institutions in Asia Pacific, and to explore ways to encourage mobility between members.

The delegation from Thailand included representatives from 10 universities as well as the Council ofUniversity Presidents of Thailand, and the Trade Commissioner from the Embassy of Canada.

Chelsey Laird, Director of UMAP International Secretariat, iterated that "Global partnerships and enhanced mobility will play a critical role in strengthening international educational connections throughout the Asia-Pacific region." She added that "VCC is well positioned to engage in Collaborative Online InternationalLearning (COIL) and short-term programs for students through UMAP, providing valuable intercultural experiences and academic exchanges."

VCC and representatives from the Thai delegation have indicated a mutual commitment to pursue further collaborations, aiming to enhance educational opportunities and strengthen ties between VCC, UMAP, and the universities in Thailand. Future initiatives may include joint research projects, faculty exchanges, and the development of new academic programs tailored to the needs of students in the Asia-Pacific region.
