HOLLAND COLLEGE
Kent and Inger Scales give $100,000 to Holland College Foundation Thrive Campaign

February 20, 2024

The Holland College Foundation's $2.5 million Thrive campaign has received a $100,000 boost from Kent and Inger Scales. The campaign is a special fundraising effort to establish a centre for student wellness, resilience, and success at Holland College.

"I've had the privilege to be a part of this initiative from its inception, which is in response to the growing and changing needs of students," said Kent Scales, who is chair of the Holland College Foundation Board of Directors. "Establishing the centre is an opportunity to centralize, integrate, and expand current services, as well as incorporate new services and supports."

The centre will provide an integrated suite of services to students at campuses province-wide via satellite offerings including mental health supports, a health clinic, academic support services, and career and academic counselling. Lifelong determinants of health such as sleep, diet, exercise, and social interaction will also be emphasized.

"The college has seen tremendous growth over the past decade and continues to further develop and deliver its programs and supports across the province," said Scales. "Inger and I both take great pride in supporting this initiative, which will impact future students Island-wide and, ultimately, benefit our economy and enrich our communities."

Kent Scales joined of the Holland College Foundation's Board of Directors in 2018 and has served as chair since 2020. He also served as chair of the Holland College Board of Governors from 2015 to 2017.

"We are extremely grateful for Kent's leadership, and for the generous philanthropic support of he and Inger both," said Dr. Alexander (Sandy) MacDonald, President of Holland College. "Their gift will help us to broaden our student supports so that students thrive academically, while building the capacity to lead healthy, empowered, and productive lives."
