Holland College is proud to congratulate Jessie Inman, Chair of the Board of Governors, on her appointment as Ship's Sponsor of the future His Majesty's Canadian Ship (HMCS) Preserver by the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN).
In a formal letter from Vice-Admiral Angus Topshee, Commander of the RCN, Inman was recognized for her "distinguished career and global leadership," as well as her "deep commitment to national security and the enduring strength of the Royal Canadian Navy." The role of Ship's Sponsor is a longstanding naval tradition that symbolizes a lasting bond between the sponsor, the ship, and its crew.
Inman's appointment underscores her long-standing advocacy for leadership, governance, and Canadian sovereignty. She has participated in key naval engagement programs such as Canadian Leaders at Sea and Canadian Leaders Alongside, gaining a deep respect for the dedication and excellence of Canada's sailors.
"This is a privilege I accept with immense pride," said Inman. "The Protecteur-class ships are vital to the Navy's ability to operate globally, and I am deeply honoured to serve as an ambassador for HMCS Preserver, its crew, and the mission it upholds."
Inman's appointment is also aligned with her recent academic focus on Arctic security, climate change, and national defence issues that directly relate to the RCN's strategic priorities both at home and abroad.
"Jessie's appointment is a testament to her leadership and commitment to Canada," said Holland College President & CEO Dr. Alexander (Sandy) MacDonald. "Her involvement as Sponsor is a great honour which is recognized and celebrated by our entire college community."
HMCS Preserver will be part of the Protecteur-class Joint Support Ships, essential to the RCN's global sustainment and operations. As Sponsor, Inman will act as a lifelong advocate for the vessel and its crew, helping to foster stronger ties between Canadians and their Navy.
Holland College celebrates this national honour and fully supports Inman's efforts to raise awareness of the RCN and its vital role in shaping Canada's future.
