MOUNT SAINT VINCENT UNIVERSITY
$35,000 raised this Giving Tuesday to tackle student food insecurity

December 10, 2024

Giving Tuesday is celebrated every year on the first Tuesday after Black Friday as a day to encourage generosity through philanthropy. Giving Tuesday 2024 was December 3, and for the fifth year in a row, Mount Saint Vincent University partnered with the J & W Murphy Foundation, along with Tina F. Murphy, BPR alum, to help students facing food insecurity.

The J & W Murphy Foundation matched donations up to $4,000, and Tina matched up to an additional $10,000. With the incredible support of those generous partners and many more donors, we raised a total of $35,082. One hundred percent of donations received will directly support the MSVUSU food bank and soup kitchen (called Captain Crow's Café).

To all donors, as well as our partners at the J &W Murphy Foundation and Tina Murphy, MSVUSU Food Bank Manager Devora Goldberg had this to say: "Because of you, MSVU students can focus more on their goals and worry less about meeting basic needs. Your contributions mean the world to us and every student you are helping."

With over 560 visits to our campus food bank and soup kitchen each month and 57% of post-secondary students experiencing food insecurity, these services have become a vital resource for the MSVU community. It is thanks to generous donors that we are able to provide these essential services, ensuring our students stay nourished and engaged in their studies and goals.

Take a moment to view this thank you video, filmed in our MSVU food bank and soup kitchen, to learn about the services we can offer with your support.

Thank you to everyone who donated!
