ST. FRANCIS XAVIER UNIVERSITY
Ideas, engagement and innovation: Annual Student Research Day showcases exceptional breadth of student work at StFX

March 25, 2024

Over 100 student research posters and presentations filled Mulroney Hall on March 20th as students from across academic disclipines presented their work during the 2024 Student Research Day.

Visitors to Mulroney Hall on March 20th couldn't help but feeling impressed. Over 100 student research posters and presentations filled the building and about 80 StFX students exchanged ideas and information during StFX's annual Student Research Day.

Students from across academic departments participated in the annual showcase, with research topics ranging from the effects of music therapy for people living in palliative care, to conserving marine diversity through climate change challenges; from food waste reduction efforts in Canada, to the relationship between teasing and self esteem in romantic relationships.

"The 2024 edition of the Student Research Day was fantastic. This event continues to demonstrate the incredible contributions of our undergraduate and graduate student researchers to the research and scholarship underway at StFX," says Dr. Richard Isnor, StFX Associate Vice-President Research and Graduate Studies, who opened the event with welcoming remarks.

"This is a highlight of the academic year, and it is great to see so many members of the university come to learn about the research work of our exceptional students."

StFX's annual Student Research Day was started in March 2003 by Dr. Angie Kolen, a human kinetics professor. She credits the idea to her own graduate student research experiences from which she adapted to suit the students at StFX.

Now in its 21st year, students have opportunity to showcase their research or advanced studies undertaken as part of their upper-year classes, advanced majors, honours, or graduate programs.

An evening is dedicated to displaying the students' work in oral presentation or poster format with the presenting students available to provide other students, faculty, staff, and community members with the opportunity to discuss the research.
